Best moments:
1. Keeping your distance from the “Trumpland” overachievers who view America’s political and cultural institutions as lost causes or flat-earth philosophies. This goes for Steve Bannon, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Ryan, more than anyone. In recent days, a lot of social media has been reacting to the post-border adjustment tax cuts and outrageous new Financial Crimes Enforcement Network regulations, which seem like yet another attempt to commodify democracy and run things by men with no allegiance. Perhaps America will win because of it.
2. Back to basics. If most moments were on this political spectrum, this was one of the night’s stronger ones. Democrat/Republican divide is overblown in this country; the passions are what drive the American public and keep on pushing America forward. One sign of America’s societal decay: The GOP is even blaming Obama! I don’t know why this nonsense resonates with Republicans. But it is funny.
3. That your idiocy weighs heavy when you hit a rough patch and have no wise counselors to pick you up, but most folks are not narcissistic. Even when someone hits them and their wheel falls off, they’re a bit more polite, and a bit more apologetic than you think.
NBC got away with having President Trump on Saturday Night Live just as the California wildfires broke out and CBS got away with getting Kanye West on Late Show. So we have contrasting kind of weeks at the networks.
